Kemah Barge Incident

This is a message from the WCID12 Board of Directors. City, county, and federal officials continue to monitor the persistence of gasoline odors from the barge incident in Galveston Bay yesterday. Air monitoring has been ongoing since late yesterday in the WCID12 district and other areas around the spill site. Although the gasoline odor is a nuisance, there is no evidence to indicate a concern for air quality. The drinking water supply is also safe and unaffected by the incident.
We are constantly monitoring the situation and the local emergency management team is actively working the response.  If new information becomes available, we will provide it as soon as possible; however, you can monitor http://bayport-response.com for real time access to the same information we’re receiving and a map of the air monitoring locations. If nothing new comes out, the cities will provide periodic status reports.
For health-related questions, call the Galveston County Health District at 409-938-7221.  Members of the community who feel that they may require medical attention should call 911.
If anyone discovers marine or wildlife that may have been impacted by this event, please report it through the TX GLO hotline at 1-800-832-8224.
A 24/7 claims hotline is also available at 1-800-241-9010.
